Context

Východoslovenská distribučná, a. s. (VSD) is the operator of the electricity distribution system in eastern Slovakia. Through an extensive distribution network spanning more than 22,000 km, it supplies electricity to hundreds of thousands of connection points and plays a key role in ensuring the reliable operation of energy infrastructure.

As a company operating critical infrastructure, it manages a large network of field workers who carry out maintenance, servicing, and fault resolution. Efficient planning and management of their activities has a direct impact on service availability and customer satisfaction.

Collaboration

PosAm carried out a project focused on optimizing the management of field workers and streamlining the processes of planning, assigning, and evaluating work tasks.

Challenge

Managing a large number of field workers in an electricity distribution environment places high demands on coordination, efficiency, and response speed. Metering service staff handle more than 100,000 requests and work orders per year across eastern Slovakia, which requires a reliable planning and record-keeping system.

The challenge was to ensure:

  • efficient planning and assignment of work tasks,
  • optimization of workforce capacity utilization,
  • rapid response to faults and unplanned events,
  • transparent visibility into the status and progress of completed work.

Solution

PosAm implemented a solution for efficient field workforce management that enables centralized planning, management, and evaluation of work activities.

The solution includes:

  • tools for planning and optimizing work tasks,
  • support for real-time incident management,
  • visibility into task status and worker performance,
  • integration with the company’s existing systems.

The system enables better resource management, more efficient intervention planning, and improved coordination between dispatch and field workers.

Value and key benefits of the solution

  • More efficient planning and utilization of field workforce capacity
  • Faster response to faults and incidents in the distribution network
  • Increased transparency and control over completed tasks
  • Improved quality of customer service thanks to faster problem resolution
  • Support for the operation of critical infrastructure with an emphasis on reliability and availability

Automation of field workforce management brought measurable improvements:

  • Shortened the planning process to one-third of the original time
  • Increased productivity by more than 15%
  • Reduced administrative burden by more than half
  • 95% reduction in paper documentation costs
  • Minimized errors caused by human factors
  • Greater visibility into the work of field staff
  • The ability to objectively evaluate the efficiency of both workers and worksites

Result

By implementing the solution, VSD gained an effective tool for managing field workers, which significantly streamlined planning, increased productivity, and reduced administrative burden.

Automation of processes brought measurable improvements in work efficiency, data quality, and management transparency, enabling better decision-making and more efficient use of capacity.

The solution contributed to shorter response times, increased reliability of the distribution system, and improved quality of service for customers.

The project confirms PosAm’s ability to deliver solutions for the energy sector, where efficient process management and high service availability are a key prerequisite for the operation of critical infrastructure.

“This project was a great example of how a supplier and customer may cooperate also beyond the expected extent, and thus give life to a product which is one of the crucial systems in our company.”

“In this cooperation I would like to emphasize the team spirit and enthusiasm of the entire project team, which contributed to successful implementation of EWO2. I particularly appreciate the transparency and supply of services in the agreed volumes and by the agreed deadlines.”
