The first seminar of its kind in Slovakia organised by the company Hitachi Data Systems attracted 110 participants. Specialists, consultants and IT section leaders could become acquainted with HDS storage solutions, storage trends of this decade, the architecture of modern data centres, as well as the economics of storage solutions, and various other themes.
The product presentation was complemented by a case study on the company Slovak Telekom on the consolidation of their storage environment, proposed and implemented by PosAm. The best testimony to the size and importance of the project lies in its basic parameters: 4 data centres, 21 disk fields, around 1 PB of disk space, heterogeneous infrastructure (HP, IBM, EMC). For the centralisation and optimisation of the systems, a Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (Hitachi VSP) was proposed. This is the most powerful model from the production of HDS, utilising among other things, technologies like Dynamic Tiering, Dynamic Provisioning and Virtualization (Heterogeneity). The consolidated solution produced a fundamentally better response in peaks, simplified management and operations, reduced unused space, with greater overall utilisation and better scalability, which in the end contribute to reducing costs and increasing performance. The measured and expected benefits are immense: as much as an 84% saving on energy costs, a 78% saving on data centre area, up to a 40% saving on user disk capacity, and 10% saving on costs of support.
PosAm as the supplier of solutions is a key partner of Hitachi Data Systems, not only in Slovakia, but throughout the region of Central Europe, which is proven also by the award TOP EMEA Growth Partner of the Year 2011. The portfolio of solutions that we offer includes systems from the enterprise range (VSP, HUS-VM, USP-V/USP)and midrange (AMS, HUS100), supplemented by storage networking solutions (Brocade, Cisco MDS).
